PRESIDER: We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You.
Genuflect.
PEOPLE: Because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.
Rise.
PRESIDER: Only forty or fifty paces from the summit Jesus can no longer stay on his feet. He lies on the ground in utter physical exhaustion stretched out on those stones. He cannot bear another step: the weight of His own body is too much. And the pain!
That cross is truly heavy but He will not give up; He has promised to deliver His physical body to the will of the Father.
PEOPLE:
Your third fall, dear Jesus, is to remind me that I have fallen again. But, by rising, You have given me reason to hope. By this, Your third fall, You purchased for me the grace of rising again each time I fall. Amen.
